Our First Tandem Tour

Last August we set out to discover our bike touring compatibility.  Our route was from Brant's parents abode in Sonoma back to our Home in San Luis Obispo via The Pacific Coast Highway.  Our ride was a 1978 (or so we suspect) Santana Tandem with all of the original hardware, excluding the spokes, handlebars, and tires.  It has been said that tandem riding can make or break a relationship, due to the trust that is required and the inevitable and unyielding proximity.

For us it was perfect.  We were able to spend long days in the saddle casually chatting without any concern for riding abreast or pace disparities.  The ancillary benefit is that Lauren was able to take stoker point of view shots while riding, and distribute ride snacks and the affectionately dubbed "straw" from the captain mounted camel back.

All of the below shots were taken with a disposable film camera from the drug store.  Enjoy!
